New York Yankees Babe Ruth in 1927. (Charles M. Conlon/Sporting News)
I am the senior photo editor at Sporting News. I have been with Sporting News for more than 15 years. The Sporting News was founded in 1886 and acquired the nickname “The Bible of Baseball”. Or photo archives include hundreds of thousands of photographs dating back almost a hundred years. Our most famous photographer in our collection is Charles M. Conlon. Conlon took thousands of portraits of major league baseball players. His most famous photos are an action shot of Ty Cobb sliding into third base and this stunning closeup of Babe Ruth.
As curator of the Sporting News Archive Tumblr http://sportingnewsarchive.tumblr.com/page/6 I post historical photographs from our archives as well as current day photographs. The Sporting News Archive Tumblr is the place to remember the history of sports as well as experience today’s history making sporting events all through the lens of the sports photographer.
